Task 8- Picture From My Photography

These are some of the picture that I have taken today at Gladesmore Community School in North London. They feel very music linked, as we have talented up and coming musicians in the studio and on the piano.

Task 8- Contact Sheet

These are just a variety of what photos I have taken. I am looking to use these pictures in my contents page as well as my DPS. However, I still need to get my front page image in my location pictured, so I will start working on my contents page (which links to my house style and flat plan) and continue with my DPS plan, as I wait to complete my front page image.

3 Point Lighting is noted in ratio, depending on number of flash brightness, (e.g. 4:3:2)

Godox-

Task 7- Audience Feedback From Magazine Presentation

From the comments I have received, my magazine presentation was really good as I included colour scheme possibilities as well as masthead possibilities. This seems positive, as my audience gather an understanding of the stages it took for me to choose which possibilities will suit my magazine. I gave them an understanding as to why the title ‘UpBeat’ was chosen. I felt like the research to find my magazine publishers was efficient, as I made sure what other music magazine my chosen publishers published and where they were based. I also included the main things that will be in my magazine, through the contents page. My house style that has been set up is an idea of how my real magazine’s front cover, contents page and DPS layout will look like. Unfortunately, I did not include my flat plan, which let me down, but as I continue to progress with it, I know where my adverts will be placed, what adverts will be placed inside my magazine and what other articles will be placed in my magazine apart form the main DPS I will be creating.

One question that was given to me was; what is the reason for my magazine to cost £2.49. From my research, I had seen that some music magazines cost £1.99. Furthermore, I have also seen magazines that have cost £2.99 and above. This gave me the initiative to pick the middle price that was in between £1.99 - £2.99. I didn’t want to choose any higher than £2.99, (picking prices such as £3.49 or £3.99), which is the reason why I chose £2.49 as the price of my magazine. This isn’t a proper example of psychological pricing as £2.49 doesn’t make the audience think that they are paying £2 instead of a penny off £3. But it still seems like it is psychological pricing as it makes you think that you are not paying £2.50, but you are actually paying a penny less.

Another question that was asked was if there will be an E-Zine version of my magazine. There will not be an E-Zine version of my magazine. Although my magazine is aimed at young teenagers, I still want to see how many ‘Loyal’ readers would actually pay £2.49 for my magazine. Again, I know that young people use the internet but I am also thinking about profit, and in this society, there are many ways to pass-by payments of things, which wouldn’t be an advantage to my magazine as well as the publishers profit. Overall, from my knowledge and the comments I have received about my presentation, I believe it was of a good standard.

Task 5- Newsstand Analysis

The magazines are lined up side by side, but mainly behind each other, denying the whole view of the magazine behind the first. You are able to see the lower left third, which sometimes includes the barcode, date, issue number, part of the masthead and a few coverlines. This then allows the by-passer to pick up the magazine and read the coverlines, the buzz words/sentences and look at the main images. All of the different magazines are laid out. One thing that caught my eye when taking the photo was that XXL magazine was at the back, but I knew straight away that the magazine was XXL, due to the colour scheme and the masthead. This enabled me to pick it up confidently, knowing the brand name of the magazine. This is a boost to the readership and the magazine’s profit, as new readers may pick up a new, certain magazine and the magazine (e.g: XXL) would increase their audience numbers. The layout via colour is a little bit messy, as there is no co-ordination, but once a magazine is on the shelf, who cares. Just as long as someone's favourite magazine is on the shelf. Most of these magazine that are shown have their magazine online through their own website. This broadens the readership and people who don't want to buy it can easily access it at home. For the younger audience, they can access value added content on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Also, music magazines can have YouTube channels, where the audience can view other value added content such as interviews and access that music magazines can get when they attend concerts/gigs and write about them.
